Silly, Silly mistakes
Well, this is a 'warts 'n' all' blog. I carried on with the stock for a short time tonight making the mid-legs out of the last strip of wood left
after cutting the planks for the main structure. I hadn't noticed that each cut was running out a little so, the last piece was tapered down about
10mm over the entire length. I cut the four legs before noticing. I know it doesn't matter because it's only the stock but I'm mad at myself all
the same. I've got to start thinking ahead or this boat is going to be a pile of sticks. I haven't told you about the various mistakes I've already
made by not taking the blade thickness into account when making cuts.
Power tools are fun but, they can produce a load of scrap very quickly. When cutting down the planks I've been trying to do it quickly with the
circular saw but It often runs out at the end of the cut when I can no longer see the guide line. The only way to do it right is by clamping a
guide to the plank. It's all in the preparation.
Maybe I'm just too distracted at the moment. Still looking for that new cheese. In the news today from the BBC: Ceremonies are held around the world to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of World War I. Also in the news: The QE2 liner leaves Southampton for the last time as it heads on its final voyage amid fireworks and cheers. Index ----- | |
